I was not ready for Yerevan.
I ended up in Armenia almost randomly, because I thought it could be fun to spend some time there before getting to my Belgian life in Brussels after I had been to cyprus (you can see the page about that trip as well!).
For one thing, I knew the country had a soviet past, but I was not aware of how much of its heritage (from statues to symbols on government palaces), mentality (photos not being allowed in the metro) and history (the big influence that Russia has on Armenia today) is still alive.
Yerevan is the capital city of Armenia. It has been inhabited since more that 2700 years (it is older than Rome in this sense). It sits in the Ararat highland at almost 1000mt of altitude. The geographical location of the city can be felt almost immediately: whereever you turn your gaze to, if it is allowed to go beyond soviet-style buildings, it will probably meet some snowy mountain (the sorrounding mountains are mostly 3000+ mt with Ararat being 5100mt, the tallest mountain I have ever seen so far)
I shot mostly in black and white, not because I wanted to do the city dirty, but because I think it would help capture best the timeless nature of the city. Enjoy :)
