This was a special for many reasons. It was my second trail after the previous year's Way of Santiago. It was the first (and so far only) trail I did with my best friend AGF. It was my first trail sleeping in a tent (also first time sleeping in a tent generally).
We left ignoring the warnings that were suggesting everyone to stay home given the extreme heat wave. The first day, we walked with 41 degrees: I still do not know how we did this with all the weight on our backs but somehow we managed.
I remember the first night in the tent as if it was yesterday. We placed it in this vast highland with distant cows and horses. It was beautiful, but as soon as it was night and we went to sleep I remember hearing noises that I thought were coming from another planet.
They were mostly night birds and some other animal breaking sticks while rushing near our tent, but this was enough to remind me that I was not home. Of course, part of my reaction was fear, but part of it was also a deep respect for being the guest of mother nature for these nights.
During the trail we then met different people including a far-right shepherd from Lazio, a literature professor that was walking shirtless in the forest, a Telecom engineer who in his best days claimed to have signed million euros contract with Microsoft, and Eufemia, a 95 years young lady that served the best ice creams of the trip in Villavallelonga.
All these crazy characters were photgraphed by AGF, who by the way also took the rest of the pics you'll see here with his Minolta from the 1970s(?). I haven't asked him for consent but I am sure he would give it sooo thank you my brother!
