If you were to tell 16-year-old me that he would be living in Brussels for 4 months, he would probably tell you something like: "aw man! Have I seriously become so lame?!"
The first time I was in Brussels I remember that it didn't leave any impression on me: neither good nor bad. Not exactly how you are supposed to feel about a city that you will go live to, right?
This feeling stayed with until when, at the beginning of this year (2026), I moved here, to Brussels, to work for the EU, the institution that I feel I owe so much to.
These first weeks have changed entirely the way in which I see the city. For once, it's a small city, easily walkable, cyclable, or public transportable that still manages to fit 1.2M people without feeling like that. This million people living here is also pretty much heterogenous: given that it is basically the capital of the EU, you have people from all over the continent that work here. Moreover, extra-European organizations that have interests in the continent, all have an office here which means that basically you have someone from every corner of the world. Which is cool.
Brussels itself was described to me as a boring city. Quite the opposite, I feel that if you are willing to look around you can always find something to do. As of the weather, I had been warned that it was cold and, except for the first crazy week (snow and minus 0 temperature all the time), I find the weather bearable (even coming from Italy).
Ok, enough talking. Enjoy some photos :)
