I was waiting for a sunny weekend to go to Bruges. However, I soon realized that if I waited too long I might end not going and so when last saturday I saw that it was foggy, I decided to go anyways.
It is true what they say. This city is touristy, probably the most touristy of the whole of Belgium. And it has its reasons to be so. The canals and the perfectly-kept historical center make the city worthy of its fame, I'd say.
I wanted to visit the local art museum and climb on top of the Belfort, the municipal tower. As soon as I discovered how expensive the two visits were, I decided to buy the museum card. Since I had, I figured I had to try to use it as much as possible. And so I did. I visited 5 museums and they were all quite nice (although you won't see any photo of them in here)
What struck me however, was that these museums were empty. They were indeed a quite nice detox from all the packs of people out there and I am very grateful of having visited them. In going towards them, I had to pass through a peripherical area of the town and once again I was surprised at how empty it was. There were canals, beautiful houses and streets like in the rest of the town, but it was deserted. This is where I took some of my favorite shots of the day.
So what can I say? If you pass in Belgium you have to see this city. My suggestion is to go beyond the crowded city center, enter museums and go in the secondary streets: that is weere you'll find the best of Bruges, in my opinion.
